Ron Thomas
Georgia - USA
Ron is a retired Postmaster which leaves him time for tying flies and fishing his creations. He has fished the streams & rivers of north Georgia and North Carolina since childhood. Ron started fly fishing in 1999 and guiding in 2006. He began tying flies in 2004 and has been teaching fly tying since 2007. Ron guides for Unicoi Outfitters (the premier fly-fishing outfitter in North Georgia) on the Chattahoochee and Soque Rivers and other trout waters in the area. In addition, he teaches fly tying at the shop, his church and other Unlimited and volunteers with Fly Fishing for Vets and the Healing Waters program. Ron has tied flies commercially and currently sells his bugs known as “Nacoochee” flies in the handcrafted custom fly boxes that he builds. Ron hosts a monthly fly-tying session at the shop in Helen, Ga. called “Tie 1 On” – focusing on beginners. Ron is a member of the Simms “Ambassador” guide program and his goal in fly fishing and fly tying is to help others to enjoy these activities as much as he does. If Ron is known for one style of fly over most others it would be tying and fishing soft hackle flies. If you are in the Atlanta area, check out Unicoi Outfitters in Helen and Blue Ridge and see our schedule of events, you may catch Ron behind the vice on Saturday morning at the shop if he’s not guiding.
