Mike Stewart

Connecticut - USA

Mike started fishing in 1959 on the Canadian border in Vermont.  He is a freshwater and saltwater fly tyer / fisherman who has had the opportunity to fish in many of the most beautiful places in and outside the US.  Most of his fishing has been in New England, New York, Arkansas, and Florida with outings to the Rocky Mountain states, New Brunswick, Alaska, and Chile. Mike has been tying since 1982 and is self-taught. Through opportunities offered by the Connecticut Fly Fishermen’s Association, he further refined his techniques to become a demonstration tier, commercial tier, and ultimately a fly-tying instructor; his bit to pass on the art to the next generation. Mike teaches fly tying out of his home in North Granby, CT and throughout New England and New York. He is also very active with the Fly Fishers Tying Board of Governors (currently the Secretary and Life Member), President of the FFI Foundation Trustees and past president of the FFI North Eastern Council. Mike is also a member of the CFFA (life member), United Fly Tyers, Catskill Fly Tyers Guild, Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, and Trout Unlimited. While he ties all types of flies, Mike especially enjoys classic wet flies. They are visually appealing, keep a part of our fly-fishing heritage alive and sure do still catch fish.
